Trivia / Home Movies

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Brendon, Duane, and Walter are voiced by co-creator Brendon Small. Jason, McGuirk, and Perry are voiced by H. Jon Benjamin.
  • Adored by the Network: Considering that it was one of [adult swim]'s very first series, you already know it is going to get some sort of love. They tend to use Home Movies to start off [adult swim]'s lineup or to end it. Even when it is removed, it always finds its way back onto the lineup. During its original run, it was subject to some questionable schedule changes. But since then, [adult swim] gives constant love to the show.
  • Channel Hop: From UPN to Cartoon Network as part of its then-new [adult swim] line-up, which was made up of Home Movies reruns (and, later, new episodes), Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Brak Show, Sealab 2021, Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law and Cowboy Bebop.
  • Corpsing: It's not uncommon for the voice actors to briefly break character during the show's improv scenes. The pilot episode (which was fully improvised by the cast) has a particular moment where the actors genuinely crack up over Erik's "duck voice".
  • The Danza: All cast and characters except Jason, because Jon Benjamin already plays John McGuirk, with Paula becoming a later exception (her UPN run being voiced by Paula Poundstone, her Adult Swim run being voiced by Janine Ditullo).
    • Brendon Small is an "As Himself except younger" example. Melissa Robbins is played by Melissa Bardin Galsky. Mr. Lynch is played by Ron Lynch.
  • Distant Finale: Brendon shows up as the owner of a video store in the second-to-last episode of Clarence, nearly a decade and a half after the original series ended.
  • Drinking Game: Has an official one that appeared as a hidden bonus feature on the first season DVD set.
  • Network to the Rescue: A quite literal case of this; after UPN cancelled the series, the newly formed [adult swim] block purchased the rights to the series and continued its production.
  • The Other Darrin: Paula. Played by Paula Poundstone in the first 5 episodes (the ones that aired on UPN). Then, when the show was Un-Cancelled and put on Cartoon Network, she was played by Janine Ditullio for the remainder of the series.
  • Production Posse: Most of the voice actors (especially the leads) from Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist appear here.
  • Throw It In!:
    • The entire first episode was made up on the spot without any planning.
    • The entire series has a few improv moments as well - usually any hysterical bits involving swearing, which have to be censor bleeped.
  • Un-Cancelled: Home Movies was originally created for UPN, who pulled the plug on the series after its fifth episode. The rights to the series was later purchased by the then newly created [adult swim], who would support the series for 52 episodes.
