Trivia / Heathcliff

• Development Hell: A film adaptation which was planned for a 2011 release but never surfaced. Frank Welker would have voiced Heathcliff.
• The Other Darrin: Mel Blanc voiced Heathcliff in the 80s animated adaptations. Over 20 years after his death, a video game for the Nintendo Wii, Heathcliff: The Fast and the Furriest, had Bill Rogers providing his voice.
• Outlived Its Creator: Before George Gately died in 2001, he handed the strip over to his nephew, Peter Gallagher. Another one of his nephews, Michael Gallagher, has written for Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie Comics) and MAD among others.
• Recycled Script: Exploited. The strips for January 26 and 28 of 2021 were identical in content, but drawn slightly differently. In the same week, on the 25th, 27th and 29th, the same setup was used with one item swapped out - in each, Heathcliff was on a therapist's couch, with said therapist saying "Let's talk about ___", referencing something sitting next to Heathcliff. Robots, Chihuahuas, and Ham, respectively. With Gallagher's odd sense of humor, this was certainly deliberate.

  • Curtis: In this strip◊, Heathcliff is one of the guests at Curtis' party, along with Dennis the Menace, Bart Simpson, Calvin, Huey Freeman, and Stewie Griffin.
  • Garfield and Friends had two Post-Opening sequence lines that were direct take thats to Heathcliff, since both works feature fat orange troublemaking cats; the first was "Hey, Heathcliff, eat your heart out!" and the second was "If you like this show, tell a friend. If you don't like it, my name is Heathcliff!"
  • The Nostalgia Critic: In his review of Garfield (2004), one of the many insults the Critic gives to the film's version of the titular feline is "Heathcliff Vomit".
  • Robot Chicken:
    • A sketch from "Sausage Fest" has Heathcliff take Garfield to Cat Court for debuting five years later than him.
    • In "Catdog on a Stick", Heathcliff is one of the DiC Entertainment characters who appears in the "Golf Jam" sketch, where Tiger Woods mistakes him for Garfield and tries to flirt with Cleo.
