Trivia / Haven (2020)

  • Acting for Two: Jane Perry provides voice work for both Erena and the Hornets.
  • Dummied Out:
    • Three additional outfit sets for the protagonists can be found in the game files which have yet to be made accessible, referred to as the "Source Pioneer", "Muffin/Cupcake", and "Time Skip" outfits. A few other outfits were present in earlier versions of the game before being removed in subsequent updates, including a Halloween and Valentine's Day set.
    • This loading screen art, which depicts Yu punching Kay for trying to steal a piece of cake from her, sat unused in the files until it was removed in the Couple Update.
    • Some of the vehicles belonging to the game's various cut characters still exist as complete models in the files.
  • Fake American: Lord Ozias has an American accent despite being voiced by the very British Harrison Collett. Same goes for Ryan Highley as male Yu, though his accent is somewhat less convincing.
  • Hey, It's That Sound!: The groan when a Toriko is defeated is one of the zombie death sounds from Doom.
  • Voices in One Room: Janine Harouni and Chris Lew Kum Hoi did all their recordings for the original Yu and Kay together to bring out as much of the couple's chemistry as possible.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The earliest known premise for the game's story involved Kay and Yu being part of a larger project to colonize a new planet and then ultimately having to escape its destruction with a 100-day time limit.
    • The setting of the game was initially envisioned as a single landmass containing a more diverse and lush set of biomes, before the Shattered World of Source came to fruition.
    • The main cast of characters was originally comprised of an eight-couple ensemble (most of whom have been revealed through concept art in the artbook) whose relationships examined various different aspects of affection, including familial bonds, same-sex love, and romance withstanding the test of time. This was ultimately scaled back to just Kay and Yu due to the immense amount of work that implementing so many characters would have involved, although Aquen, one of the cut female characters, would be recycled into Kay's mate (for her demo-exclusive appearance anyway), and the concept would serve as inspiration for the same-sex relationship options introduced in the Couple Update.
    • A deity-like figure was also scrapped, though nothing much is known about her aside from what can be gleaned from the concept art.
    • A Final Boss in the ever-rusted biome was considered, but ultimately deemed not thematically appropriate given that combat is not the game's main focus.
    • Several of the creatures depicted in the game's concept art didn't make the final cut, including a centipede-like creature called the Cloner, a simian creature with a mouthlike tail called the Gemini, and a flying creature with tentacles called the Haymaker.
  • Word of God:
    • Regarding the lack of an option to play as female Kay and male Yu, the developers have clarified that this was a means of simplifying the technical development of the alternate couple options, as well as to avoid the gender stereotyping that a prudent woman who loves cooking and a hot-headed male mechanic would present when paired together.
    • Several other tidbits about the game's world have been revealed by the developers during community Q&A sessions:
      • The inhabitants of the Apiary are a race of Human Aliens, with their unusual hair and eye colors and Facial Markings being naturally occuring traits that distinguish them from humans.
      • Apiarians have a far more advanced understanding of genetics than we do, such that they're able treat sex and reproduction as two separate concepts. Consequently, their ideas around gender and sexual orientation are different from ours as they're not a determining factor in their identities.
      • Most Apiarians are satisfied with the mate chosen for them by the Matchmaker, making the protagonists a very notable exception to the norm.
      • Yu is actually from Down, having apparently moved to Top at an unknown point of her life.
      • The flow gauntlets used by the couple also have applications in hunting, construction, and sports. Their pair in particular are a powerful variant that Yu managed to jailbreak.
