- Keep Circulating the Tapes: The film has been out of print for nearly twenty years and very few places had it when it was available for digital distribution (the few places that did carry it only had it available in standard definition, it looked almost exactly like how it looked during its original VHS release), now no digital distributor sells it and the film's current copyright holder, Lionsgate, just sits on the film. Interestingly enough, you find the film's semi-sequel, Life During Wartime, very readily available everywhere and with a Criterion Collection release.
- Spared by the Cut:
- A scene was filmed in which Andy commits suicide but it was deleted.
- In the original screenplay, Bill receives a package after his family leaves him. The package is a bomb that blows up, killing him.
- What Could Have Been:
- Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, William Hurt, Bill Pullman and Gary Sinise were all offered the role of Bill Maplewood.
- Patricia Arquette was originally cast as Trish Maplewood, but dropped out when her mother became ill.
- Jack Black and Jon Lovitz were considered for Allen.
