Trivia / Hamish Macbeth

Go To

  • Creator Backlash: Author M.C.Beaton was not fond of the TV adaptation for the liberties it took, in particular the handling of Hamish himself, giving him darker undertones, and having him played by Robert Carlyle, who she considered talented but miscast. She claimed to have a difficult time with the production, believing they hated the original material and snubbed her financially. This bad history almost led to the Agatha Raisin TV series not being approved for production.
  • Playing Against Type: A retroactive example, but since he since rose to prominence as Begbie in Trainspotting (which was released not long after the show began) Robert Carlyle tends to be cast either as the Violent Glaswegian or as a rather morally ambiguous or outright villainous type. Which makes a lazy but fundamentally kind-hearted rural small-town Scottish policeman something of a departure.
