• What Could Have Been:
  • If an Insurrectionist General named "Harper Garvin" sounds familiar, that's because in most drafts of the books he was Howard Graves, another Insurrectionist character from Halo: Ghosts of Onyx. Troy Denning gave him a Suspiciously Similar Substitute late in the writing process when he decided that having Howard Graves in the book would create a continuity issue: He is portrayed in Ghosts of Onyx as somewhat naive and dismissive of the strength of the Spartan-II's, which makes less sense if he has already directly encountered and been defeated by them in this book.
  • Orsun's cameo was originally intended to be Atriox, but he was cut from the book as his appearance was felt to be too shoehorned.
