Trivia / Gwendalavir Universe

  • Died During Production: Pierre Bottero tragically died in a motorbike accident in 2009, leaving the Les Âmes Croisées trilogy (of which the first book was published posthumously) forever incomplete.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Bottero could initially not think of a good name for Ewilan; in the first draft of La Quête, she was thus called "Miette", after his daughter's nickname. His editor urged him to change it, because of how ridiculous it sounded.
    • Les Âmes Croisées ending seems to indicate that Nawel was going to meet Eryn, Destan and Elio, aka the children of the protagonists of each previous trilogy, thus tying together every series in the Gwendalavir Universe. Unfortunately, due to Pierre Bottero's death, we will never get to see said meeting take place.
    • Bottero was working in parallel with Erik Lhomme on another unrelated series, with two main protagonists — each author told the story through the eyes of his own character. The series was originally meant last for thirteen books. Bottero died before it could reach that point, so Lhomme ended the series with the eighth book, and made Bottero's character die between books 4 and 5, the same way Boterro himself did: from a motorbike accident, doubling as a Heroic Sacrifice.
