• Pop-Culture Urban Legends: There's many rumors in Japan about the early games' popularity among the Japan Self-Defense Forces, such as the supposed purchase of large quantities of games and Saturn consoles under supposed military goods, the supposed fact that most of Gungriffon's buyers were in the JSDF, their interest in using its system for future combat simulators, or that many of them supposedly killed the game's Chinese ally units on purpose.
