• Box Office Bomb: Budget: $112 million. Box office: $42,779,261 (domestic), $237,382,724 (worldwide).
• The Cast Showoff: Jack Black has a background as a singer and the movie takes pretty much every excuse to allow him to rock out.
• Contractual Obligation Project: Emily Blunt had to star in the film as a result of starring in The Devil Wears Prada. Because of the scheduling conflict, she had to turn down the role of Black Widow in Iron Man 2.
• Fake Brit: Jason Segel does a remarkable job here.
• Star-Derailing Role:
  • The critical and commercial flop of this film really put a dent in Jack Black's mainstream career, and it wasn't until Goosebumps (2015) and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle that he was able to rebound.
  • It also put Emily Blunt's career temporarily on ice before she rebounded with Edge of Tomorrow and Into the Woods.
• What Could Have Been:
  • The film itself was originally going to be an adaptation of "Prometheus and Bob", a series of stop-motion animated shorts that originated from Nickelodeon's variety cartoon show, KaBlam! However due to its troubled production (primarily the passing of one of its planned stars, Chris Farley), the creator of the original shorts hating what the script entailed, and Nickelodeon's refusal to let him partake in anything that the project may have included, the idea was ultimately scrapped and its remains were ultimately reworked into this film instead.
  • Taylor Lautner was originally cast as Horatio, but was dropped after the filmmakers changed their minds and considered him too young for the part.
  • Sarah Michelle Gellar was considered to play the Princess of Lilliput.
  • Brie Larson auditioned for a role, most likely Princess Mary.
