Trivia / Gone in 60 Seconds (2000)

• Awesome, Dear Boy: Angelina Jolie agreed to be in this movie because she loves cars. At the time, she drove a Ford truck.
• Completely Different Title: In some Greek theaters, the title was translated to "Come in 60 Seconds".
  • Released in Hungary as Thief's Tempo.
• Creator Backlash: Christopher Eccleston described this as a "terrible film in which I give a terrible performance", adding that, before Doctor Who, people who recognised him mostly shouted "'You were in Gone in 60 Seconds, mate! You were shit!' And I have to laugh at that, because I was!"
• Method Acting: To stay in character, Delroy Lindo wore his gun and police gear even when it wasn't needed in the shot.
• Money, Dear Boy: Christopher Eccleston said that this was pretty much the only reason he accepted the role.
• No Stunt Double: Nicolas Cage did most of his own stunt driving for the film. He attended the Bondurant Driving School in Phoenix, Arizona, Willow Springs (another car driving school), and the Bobby Ore Stunt Driving School in preparation for the film. He liked the race car driving school so much that he continued to pursue it as a hobby after shooting was completed.
• Referenced by...: In The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Nicolas Cage and Javi worry during a Mushroom Samba that some onlookers are stalking them, so Javi orders Nick to drive him back to his estate. Nick insists that he can't drive on acid, but Javi figures that since Nick did all of his own driving in Gone in 60 Seconds, he can drive better than Javi can. After a rough start, they make it back to the estate.
• Uncredited Role: Jonathan Hensleigh and J. J. Abrams did an uncredited re-write.
• What Could Have Been: In a previous draft of the script, it included some additional elements from the original film. For example, Memphis dresses as an old man when he steals Eleanor, similar to how Pace does in the first film. At the end of the chase, Memphis is able to ditch the outfit and gets picked up by Kip who managed to steal another Shelby GT-500 that appeared to be for sell. Some changes also include an explanation for why Sphinx was called Sphinx (in addition to being mute, he was also written to be missing a large chunk of his nose. And for the boost, he wears a pair of glasses that applies a fake tip to make his nose look complete), Donnie being shot by the carjacker and his fate left unanswered, Tobey dying from his gunshot wound (as well as the mention of Tobey's death in Sphinx's "you say poor Tobey, I say poor us" speech) and Raymond's death (instead of being kicked off a high balcony and landing in the coffin he made for Kip, he is shoved into the coffin by Memphis and two of his goons bury him alive, unaware that it's him that they're burying). Also, the previous draft included various car songs including "Radar Love" by Golden Earring and "No Particular Place to Go" by Chuck Berry.
