Trivia / Get Crazy

Go To

  • Box Office Bomb: Budget, $5.5 million. Box office, $1,645,711.
  • The Cast Showoff: All actors performed their own vocal tracks, although none (except Lou Reed) wrote their songs. Malcolm McDowell specifically requested that he be allowed to sing as a condition of his contract.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Embassy Home Entertainment released the film on VHS in the 1980s, but no DVD edition was ever released. (Director Allan Arkush had stated that a DVD release was unlikely, due to issues with the sound elements.) For many years, GET CRAZY was considered a "lost" movie - until Kino Lorber Studio Classics discovered the picture and sound elements, and released it on Blu-ray for the first time in 2021 in a new 2k restoration.
  • Screwed by the Network: In a deal reminiscent of Springtime for Hitler, shares were sold in the film to a Wall Street tax shelter group, effectively meaning that it didn't need to be released and was designed to lose money so that others would make money. Director Allan Arkush learned this during filming and was thoroughly demoralized by it, knowing that he was making a film that no one would see.
  • What Could Have Been: Tom Hanks was supposed to play Neil Allen, and Arkush also wanted Mariska Hargitay as his sister and Jerry Orbach as Max.
