Trivia / Gayle

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Chris plays Gayle, Dave (his voice, because we never see his face), Gayle's sister and Bonnie's husband. He also plays minor characters, such as the Tech Support guy.
  • Cast Incest: Chris's girlfriend Melissa Strype as Gayle's daughter Terry. The show sometimes plays with it in Reality Subtext fashion, as when Gayle hallucinates that Terry is Yanni and flirts with her, or when the two of them pose as a teenaged "mall couple" (with Gayle as the male half) in Episode 29.
  • Creator Breakdown: While certainly not as volatile as other examples, the series ending at Episode 40 is actually the product of collective burnout on the part of the cast— in an interview, Fleming revealed that, Gayle had reached a scale that began to simply eat up far too much of the production team's lives. Considering how Fleming had both his parents and his girlfriend active as part of the main cast, along with many other real life friends playing recurring characters, it's reasonable to assume that Gayle was called off before it began to strain these relationships.
  • The Danza: Bruce, played by Bruce Burgwinkle. He's even credited As Himself in the first two episodes.
  • Incestuous Casting: Chris plays Reggie, the husband of Bonnie (played by Chris's mother). Chris's father also appears as Gayle's husband Dave, though his face is never seen (his voice is dubbed in by Chris).
  • Real-Life Relative: Bonnie is played by Chris's mother, Nancy Fleming. Terry is played by Chris's girlfriend Melissa Strype, and her father, Fred Strype, plays Rick Gausmann, while her sister Shanya Strype plays minor roles such as the lizard person "Bopie" in episode 28. Bruce is Chris's childhood best friend's father.
  • Technology Marches On: Bonnie dedicates a song to how much she misses Taylor Swift being gone from Spotify. In 2017, Swift returned her music catalog to the streaming service after removing it in 2014.
