Trivia / GTO: The Early Years

Go To

  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: It was only released on VHS (in Japan) back in the '90s with no indication, let alone interest, of ever bringing it to DVD. The manga was actually released in English, but it's been out of print for over a decade and some volumes go for almost a hundred dollars.
  • Late Export for You: Shonan Jun'ai Gumi! was released before its better-known sequel Great Teacher Onizuka, but wasn't published overseas until after GTO (and was given the Retronym GTO: The Early Years). Also, only the first 10 volumes were published before Tokyopop lost the license in 2009, leaving the last 5 in limbo until Vertical got the rights in 2012.
  • No Export for You: Unlike its sequel, the OVAs have never been exported outside of Japan and is looking highly unlikely to ever do so.
  • The Other Darrin: Takumi Yamazaki voiced Tsuyoshi Tsukai for the first two episodes, but was replaced for some reason by Toshiyuki Morikawa in the fourth. Morikawa also voiced the villain of the fifth and final episode, Kunito Nakajo.
