  • The version of this episode that was seen on American syndicated broadcasts was missing Fry's line, "And that's how you play the game," as well as all references to "You gotta do what you gotta do."
  • In the original airing of the episode, the commuter at the tube transport system asks to go to "JFK Jr. Airport", but after John F. Kennedy Jr.'s death in a plane crash, it was redubbed to "Radio City Mutant Hall", which is what appears on the DVD.
• First Appearance: All the characters in this episode make their first appearance in the series.
• What Could Have Been:
  • In the original storyboards for the episode, Fry mentions having a sister with a boyfriend named Eddie Farnsworth (as justification for the Professor's different surname). While Fry's sister and her eventual husband were scrapped, the idea of Fry having siblings would eventually be revisited in "The Luck of the Fryrish" with Yancy.
  • There was going to be a scene◊ where Fry watches The Simpsons on TV, remarking on how "ugly" the characters are.
  • Some scenes changed or altered in the animatic stage.
    • The bratty kid at Pannuci's had slightly more lines, telling Fry his grandmother did better at the video game, and she thought it was a cigarette machine.
    • Fry's initial reaction to seeing he's in the future is to look down at the street below and realize his bike's been stolen.
    • The heads in the criminal wing of the Head Museum were initially to react to Fry and Bender's presence. In the episode proper, they remain silent.
    • After the Planet Express ship escapes the police, Smitty asks Nixon's head if he wants to send a killbot out to "arrest" them, but Nixon decides not to since it's New Years.
