- Follow the Leader: Notably similar to Ranma ½; not only does it star a male protagonist who becomes a Sex Shifter in his teens, but it also has a focus on martial arts. Aro's art style is even similar to Takahashi's.
- Inspiration for the Work: Hiroshi Aro stated he made Futaba-kun Change! because he read Ranma 1/2 and felt that Rumiko Takahashi wasn't really exploring the gender-bending aspect of it.
