Trivia / Free Spirit (1989)

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Dann Florek shows up in episode 2 as TJ's client, and as Winnie's boss Bill (disguised as said client).
  • Colbert Bump: The show underwent one after Platypus Comix started posting reviews of it. At the very least, This Very Wiki didn't have a page about it until after those reviews came out.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: None of the studios that own the rights to release official DVDs of Columbia Pictures' TV shows - Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Shout! Factory, or Mill Creek Entertainment - have yet given such treatment to this one.
  • Missing Episode: The 14th episode had a listing in TV Guide, but ABC didn't actually show it. It did air in Australia though (and rumor has it it that was also aired in Canada), and luckily, someone got it from that airing and posted it to a certain video-sharing website.
  • The Other Marty: An early version of the pilot features Christopher Rich and Shonda Whipple as TJ and Jessie, respectively. They were replaced by Franc Luz and Alyson Hannigan. Scenes of the early pilot featuring Rich and Whipple can be seen in this 1989 promo, from a press reel promoting ABC's 1989 fall season.
  • Screwed by the Network: The premiere of America's Funniest Home Videos required this show to get bumped one slot later, at the same time The Simpsons aired to boot. In addition, episode 14 got pre-empted at the last minute for a re-run of Full House.
  • Short Run in Peru: Episode 14 only aired in Canada and Australia.
  • Technology Marches On: Among other examples, Winnie receives a phone call on a giant cordless phone in the intro.
  • What Could Have Been: The revised first draft of the pilot's script reveals, among other things, that Winnie used to have a habit of delivering incongruous pop culture references, the Harpers had the last name, "Haggarty", and Jessie would have had a subplot about getting over her jealousy of Robb's good looks.
