Trivia / Fossil Fighters

Go To

  • Colbert Bump: The original game got a massive one when JaidenAnimations dedicated an entire video to it.
  • Dueling Works: With Dinosaur King (both being dinosaur-based mons series) and, less directly, Spectrobes (both being Nintendo DS franchises where monsters are received by cleaning and reviving fossils).
  • Franchise Killer: Fossil Fighters was one of a few of Nintendo's C-list franchises to end on the Nintendo 3DS, with Frontier's poor reception and low sales putting an end to the games. Super Smash Bros. is the only place the series has been seen since then (a trophy in the 3DS version of the fourth game, and two Spirits and a music track from Frontier in Ultimate).
  • Science Marches On: While the vivosaurs aren't exactly intended to be scientifically accurate depictions, the scientific understanding of some of the featured vivosaurs have changed since the release of the games.
    • Some dino facts that were considered accurate at the time of the first game have since had evidence against them. Champions carries over most of the profiles from the original games thanks to the Grandfather Clause, only making updates when needed: some of the changes being Microraptor's ability to fly (we now believe they could), Styracosaurus' collars (females did turn out to have them) and Allosaurus' three claws (original called them "typical", Champions says they're "distinctive").
      • The most obvious changes are where a dino is now recognized by a different name. Champions retains the old vivosaur names rather than updating them, but corrects the actual name in the profiles: Shanshan(osaurus) is a young Tarbosaur —and also has Grow Up, allowing Shanshan to turn into Tarbo— and Anato(titan) is an Edmontonosaurus. The official website also mentioned that Seismo(saurus) is now a Diplodocus and Spinax's full name has gone from an Altispinax to a Becklespinax, but these didn't make it into the game itself (although a recent analysis suggests Altispinax is the correct name after all).
      • Frontier avoids this by dropping several vivosaurs (including ones with now-incorrect names) and giving all of them entirely new profiles. It does give a nod to changes, though, as an NPC mourns how "Seismosaurus" is no longer a valid dinosaur name.
    • Some of the featured vivosaurs, namely (Deino)Cheirus and Spino(saurus) were found to have looked very different thanks to new fossil discoveries that happened after the release of the games.
  • Urban Legend of Zelda:
    • The original had the mysterious dig site "Ancient Ruins," which was assumed to exist from cursory views of the map. The picture in question is of the Digadigamid.
    • Champions has an obstructive rock pile in Dusty Dunes, and supposed ways to return to Seabed Cavern.
