• Creator Backlash: Father John Misty admitted that he wasn't all that happy with his role as a drummer in this band, noting he only joined and stayed on for as long as he did because he was dating Robin Pecknold's sister at the time. His increased use of narcotics, as well as rising tensions between him and Pecknold resulted in him exiting the band in 2012. That said, Misty appears more fond of his time with the group in retrospect, singing praises for the band in 2017.
• Doing It for the Art: From interviews, this is the impression one gets of Pecknold's attitude to his music. It is probably the reason for the second album's long production time (and at least part of the reason for the third album's even longer production time).
• Schedule Slip: Their second album was originally supposed to be released in 2010.
