Trivia / Fleabag

Go To

  • Acting for Two: In the play. Although it does have a few pre-recorded voice parts, Phoebe Waller-Bridge basically plays everyone, right down to the guinea pig.
  • Dawson Casting:
    • Godmother is probably supposed to be somewhat older than Olivia Colman, who is far too young to be the godmother to Fleabag and Claire unless they were non-infant baptisms; though since she was their mother's student, her relationship with Dad is probably still something of a May–December Romance.
    • Claire's stepson Jake, who's most likely a teenager, was played by Angus Imrie in two episodes of Series 2. Imrie was 25 years old and already the father of one child at the time of his appearances, but to be fair he does look very youthful.
  • Missing Trailer Scene: Although they often turn up in previews and reviews of the series, those images of Fleabag running around town in a superhero costume are from the publicity for the original 2013 stage production. Not only does that not happen in the TV series, but it didn't happen in the play either.
  • Never Work with Children or Animals: Phoebe Waller-Bridge admitted that filming the scene at the end of the series where Fleabag encounters a fox was difficult. The two foxes brought in to play them were extremely shy and as a result did not produce any footage of note, eventually resorting to having to create the fox in CGI.
  • Playing Against Type: Andrew Scott, who is known for portraying villainous or unstable characters, portrays a more toned down Nice Guy The Priest.
  • Real-Life Relative: Phoebe Waller-Bridge's sister wrote the music, and their mother plays the lecturer in episode one.
  • The Red Stapler: Sales of Marks and Spencer gin & tonic in a can shot up after it appeared as the Priest's drink of choice in S2. The same applies to many of Fleabag's outfits, including the black-and-white striped top, the red dress from the wedding, and especially the jumpsuit from the restaurant episode.
  • Star-Making Role: For Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Sian Clifford.
  • Write Who You Know: While the characterisation wasn't based on the actress herself, Phoebe Waller-Bridge wrote Claire specifically for Sian Clifford. Waller-Bridge and Clifford are long-time friends who met at the London Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and the latter had performed on stage over the years several early versions of Claire written by the former.
  • Writing by the Seat of Your Pants: Jenny Rainsford (Boo) remembers seeing Phoebe Waller-Bridge reworking the show's script on her laptop while picking her up to the set. She also rewrote Martin's final speech around ten minutes before arriving on set, and whispered a ton of new lines to actors while filming.
  • Written by Cast Member: Written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
