Trivia / Fire and Ice (1983)

• Acting for Two: William Ostrander voices both Larn and Taro, as well as being the performance model for the latter.
• Money, Dear Boy: In Unfiltered: The Complete Ralph Bakshi, Ralph says he made this one for the paycheck.
• Same Language Dub: Many of the actors were dubbed over with only Steve Sandor (Darkwolf), Leo Gordon (Jarol), William Ostrander (Taro), Elizabeth Lloyd Shaw (Roleil), Micky Morton (Otwa), Big Yank (Monga), and Greg Wayne Elam (Pako) remaining undubbed, a testament to their abilities as actors. Ostrander himself dubbed over Randy Norton as Larn.
• Sequel in Another Medium: Received a comic book miniseries in 2023, set before the film.
• What Could Have Been:
  • Juliana originally had a different actress.
  • Teegra was originally supposed to run around naked for the rest of the film after the sub-humans kidnapped her, much like the Conan the Barbarian type stories that inspired this film. (Not that it would have made much of a difference from her appearance in the final product, but still.)
  • There was an alternate animation model made for Larn with brown hair instead of blond.
  • As many people have guessed over the years, Darkwolf was going to be officially Nekron's father. The Painting with Fire documentary included a piece of the original script where Juliana, upon seeing Nekron dying, asks Darkwolf "what have they done to their children", to which he replies ambiguously that "she killed his." Even although their exact backstory wasn't clearly told in the scene, Bakshi and company decided to rewrite it completely and leave the revelation out.
