Trivia / Final Crisis

  • Author's Saving Throw:
    • One of the few things from Countdown that Morrison grudgingly acknowledged was Mary Marvel's Faceā€“Heel Turn, though rather than voluntary, as it was depicted in that series, Morrison reveals that it was due to the spirit of Desaad, Darkseid's Torture Technician and all-around lackey, reincarnating into her body.
    • In addition, the horrific fate of Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew! of being trapped as mute animals is undone in spectacular fashion by Monitor Nix Uotan who makes a point of changing all them back with their humanoid forms, clothes and powers.
    • Rogues Revenge is this for the Flash villains (with a little Fix Fic thrown in for good measure). It's Johns and Scott Kollins trying to reconcile the depiction of the Rogues during Bart Allen's tenure and how out of character they were (while also setting up The Flash: Rebirth. Basically, think of this tie-in as Rogues: Rebirth.
  • Colbert Bump: When Zack Snyder posted (of all things) a photo of his Thanksgiving turkey on his Vero account in 2021 that had a copy of Absolute Final Crisis in the background, it led to a large spike in sales for the comic book to the point that it sold out in certain retailers. It is worth noting that Snyder's plans for his Justice League sequels were going to borrow heavily from Final Crisis.
  • Executive Meddling: Grant Morrison wanted the series to be the finale of the New Gods and asked DC not to use them until Final Crisis. DC didn't listen.
  • Production Posse:
    • Grant Morrison had previously worked with event artists J. G. Jones and Doug Mahnke on 52 and Seven Soldiers of Victory: Frankenstein.
    • Geoff Johns and Scott Kollins on Rogues Revenge, having of course previously worked together on The Flash and Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E..
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Grant Morrison originally conceived Granny's Final Crisis visual as a warped version of a Real Doll fetishist. Granny would wear a corset and rubber catsuit to make her look skinnier, on top of wearing a doll-themed latex face mask to hide the fact that she was an elderly woman.
    • Early rumors were that the aftermath would have led to a Changing of the Guard scenario with all but the recently-resurrected Justice League members (specifically Barry Allen and Hal Jordan) replaced by their Teen Titans counterparts. What made this especially interesting was the exception: Batman would have been a nearly Ax-Crazy Jason Todd, with Damian Wayne as his Lesser Evil Morality Pet. Status Quo Is God apparently prevented such a seismic change, but the thought is interesting.
    • The book was supposed to reintroduce the classic Aquaman, but this was scrapped in favor of having him return in Blackest Night.
    • Geoff Johns and Scott Kolins' Rogues' Revenge was originally going to be a 5-6 issue mini-series and would have featured Wally West (wherein he'd be going after the Rogues and Piper especially for his role in Bart Allen's death). The decision to tie it into the event and cut it down to 3 oversized issues came late in pre-production.
