• Actor Allusion: Bob Denver's character caused the screwup that launched them into space, and was regularly the cause of further screwups, just like Gilligan.
• Dueling Shows: Ironically, with ABC's The Lost Saucer, which was another Krofft show that came out the same year, and basically was a carbon copy of this show, to the point that sets and models were occasionally recycled.
• What Could Have Been: One of Bob Denver's sons wanted to portray Honk.
