Trivia / Family Guy S13 E1 "The Simpsons Guy"

Go To

  • Accidentally-Correct Writing: Peter mentions that Dennis the Menace should simply be called "Dennis" as a result of his lack of menace. In the UK, where Dennis the Menace refers to a different comic, it's given that name.
  • Development Gag: The above-mentioned Accidentally-Correct Writing was Matt Groening's basis for Bart. Growing up, he felt Dennis wasn't enough of a troublemaker to earn the title of "menace" and conceived Bart as being a kid who did all of the things that a kid like that would do.
  • Deleted Scene:
    • Peter makes another comic that's intended to be offensive. A cutaway then shows his comic, being of a guy, waking up in his bed and saying "The tooth fairy left a quarter under my pillow and a doody in my pants."
    • The feminists throw a flaming trashcan through Peter's window.
    • Stewie sits in the car and comments on everything he sees as he passes by them.
    • Peter makes a comment about his car keys going missing. Instead of him acknowledging the fact that he can't drive his car without them, he says that the biggest problem with them being gone is the fact that he can't scratch his ball to his satisfaction.
    • Homer invites Peter to stay at his house.
    • Seamus and Sea Captain are sitting next to each other in court, and have a back and forth about their eye damage.
    • Dr. Nick sits next to Dr. Hartman and says his signature "Hi everybody!" but Dr. Hartman says "It's just me."
  • Dueling Shows: Literally. Turns out neither show wins, because both are rip-offs of The Flintstones, which, in turn, is a rip-off of The Honeymooners.
  • Fandom Nod: A large chunk of the episode is just characters from each show voicing their respective fans' most common criticisms of the other; the fan bases of the shows are treated as mutually exclusive groups.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Lenny's single "Eh" is obviously not performed by Harry Shearer. See What Could Have Been for further details.
    • In the European French dub, the casting director chose to only use the Family Guy cast for the majority of Simpsons characters, with only Philippe Peythieu (as Homer and Abraham) and VĂ©ronique Augereau (as Marge, Patty, and Selma) returning for the crossover.
  • Reality Subtext:
    • The dogfight cutaway referencing the Animation Domination block with Peter's carrying Bob Belcher and the crash and burn of Cleveland Brown.
    • Duff vs. Pawtucket Ale. And the Flintstones did it first.
    • Peter claims that his cartoon wasn't the only thing offensive to women, likely referencing the backlash Seth MacFarlane received for singing "We Saw Your Boobs" at the Oscars.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Pretty much all of Harry Shearer's characters remain silent due to him not participating.
    • One idea for a crossover between both shows would be the Griffins going to Springfield and spending an entire week with Lenny and Carl without meeting anyone else.
    • Another idea involved revealing that the entirety of Family Guy took place inside a snow globe belonging to Ralph Wiggum, referencing the ending of St. Elsewhere.
