  • Actor Allusion: In some question and answer challenges, Ray would say "Three seconds" if a contestant was slow to give a response.
  • Follow the Leader: A late response to Double Dare (1986) which started the messy kids' show trend in the late 80s. This after Woody Fraser produced Wild and Crazy Kids and What Would You Do? for Nickelodeon.
  • In Memoriam: Michael Burger's first episode had a tribute to Ray Combs who committed suicide before Season 2 started production.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The series has only re-aired once, on GSN briefly in 1999. About a third of the Combs season can be found on YouTube but Burger-era episodes are hard to come by.
  • Money, Dear Boy: The reason Combs signed onto host the show. He was financially struggling due to being let go from Family Feud and a car accident that nearly paralyzed him the year before.
  • Never Work with Children or Animals: The microphone incident mentioned below. Combs learned the hard way something that Bob Barker once told him: "never let the contestant hold the microphone."
  • Prop Recycling: The Gunk Tank was recycled from the Pie Slide on What Would You Do?, another Fraser production. The Pie Pendulum and Pie Roulette were also reused.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • While in the pilot stage, series creators Dave Thomas and Woody Fraser pitched this show to ABC.
    • On the May 27, 1996 episode of The Home and Family Show, Ray Combs said he was open to hosting another season if given the opportunity. That would be his last television appearance.
  • Written-In Infirmity: During one episode, a little girl accidentally hit Combs with his microphone and he had to be stitched up during a break.
