  • Technology Marches On:
    • A reader who picks up the 2011 reprint, not realising the book was originally published in 1989, may be confused by the characters writing each other letters and talking on landline phones. Most of Tina and Simon's communication issues would be solved with access to mobile phones - for example, when Tina goes into town to meet Simon, he has no way of letting her know he's going to be (very) late. He also has to send his friend Adam, in person, to tell her he's been grounded and can't come out.
    • At one point, Tina also calls directory enquiries to get the Traffords' home phone number. Not only are landlines falling out of use, it now seems odd to think that there used to be such an easy way to get someone's number!
