  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Not only has the Expansion Kit never left Japan, but it's never been re-released in any official capacity. To experience the Expansion Kit on original hardware, you would first need a Japanese Nintendo 64 (or a U.S. console with a region adapter), a Japanese copy of the base game, then you need the 64DD which can cost anywhere upwards of $1,250, and the actual Expansion Kit disk which costs $250.
  • No Export for You: The Expansion Kit never left Japanese shores due to the failure of the 64DD. The code to interface with the 64DD is still in the overseas versions of the game, but it will not accept the Japanese version of the disk.
  • Sequel Gap: X released in 1998, eight years after the original.
  • What Could Have Been: Fully translated code to read from the 64DD left over in the U.S. and European versions of the game suggests that the Expansion Kit was intended for an international release.
