General Trivia

  • The animated credits sequence was created through claymation. Prior to creating the sequence, they had the cast of the show act out the storyboard of the opening sequence for video reference. When the rough video reference draft is completed, they send the footage to Space Bass Films where they follow the process and recreate the reference with the claymation.
Trivia Tropes
  • Actor Allusion: Gary LeRoi Gray, who played Ren's Black and Nerdy friend Nelson during Season 2, was Nelson Tibideaux, the grandson of Cliff Huxtable, as a toddler near the end of The Cosby Show's run.
  • Actor-Shared Background: Shia LaBeouf and Donna Pescow are of Jewish descent, like their characters Louis and Eileen respectively.
  • California Doubling: A case of California doubling for California. The show is set in Sacramento, but was filmed in and around Los Angeles.
  • The Cast Showoff: A few examples, most notably Christy Carlson Romano (Ren), A. J. Trauth (Twitty), and to a lesser degree Lauren Frost (Ruby).
    • In particular, the episode "Influenza" seems to have been written just to allow Romano, a Broadway-level singer, a chance to have the lead in a musical.
  • Channel Hop: Unusually for a Disney Channel Original Series, this was not shown on the UK Disney Channel (unlike The Movie), getting shown on Children's BBC and later ITV.
  • Creator Backlash: Christy Carlson Romano both criticized and praised the show's intro during a video of her reacting to Even Stevens. She stated that the claymation figures of the characters looked nothing like her or her co-stars, despite the credits saying her name loud and clear. She even pointed out that the claymation sequence throughout looked weird and creepy, and it also made her feel insecure after viewing it for the first time. She did give credit to the show's catchy theme music on the other hand.
  • Dawson Casting: Applies to the entire cast, but especially egregious with Donnie, a star athlete in high school played by an actor in his mid-twenties. Larry Beale, who was supposed to be in eighth grade, was also played by an actor who was into his twenties by the time the series ended.
    • Also, Ren was in middle school but was quite clearly of high school age. Especially with Shia LaBeouf in the season one finale, which used footage from the pilot as a flashback.
    • A lot of this is made worse by the pilot sitting on the shelf for a year. Shia LaBeouf and Margo Harshman were the right age when it was shot but by the time the series was picked up they were about High School-age along with A.J. Trauth, who wasn't a part of the pilot.
  • Harpo Does Something Funny: Shia LaBeouf reveals in subsequent interviews that a lot of his lines were ad-libbed.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Only The Movie and the Hanukkah episode had ever seen a DVD release and the show didn't get a proper media release until 2019 when it came out on Disney+.
