Trivia / Ethel Cain

Go To

  • Black Sheep Hit: "American Teenager" is an almost Taylor Swift-esque Indie Pop song that easily became her most well-known track. It's a far cry from the rest of the dark, slow, and very long songs on the rest of Preacher's Daughter.
  • Bury Your Art: Doesn't want to be associated with the music she made pre-Ethel Cain, such as White Silas, believing that it doesn't really reflect her.
  • Reclusive Artist: An odd example. She originally was not this at all, but becoming a social media indie darling almost out of nowhere brought her a lot of attention and scrutiny, which caused her to delete the majority of her social media accounts. It also doesn't help that online TERFs and other anti-LGBT culture war enthusiasts have zeroed in on her with constant death threats and harassment for no other reason than that she is a young transgender woman with an online following.
  • Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things: Initially quite interactive with fans, she eventually got tired of keeping up a "meme-y" persona, and felt it was cheapening her art. She also deleted her Twitter due to the influx of attention and subsequent transphobic harassment she was receiving, though that really isn't the fandom's fault.
