Trivia / Dragonlance Chronicles

Go To

  • Creator Backlash: In the Annotated Chronicles Tracy Hickman has expressed regret over how he wrote Laurana's decision to give up her generalship to go chasing after Tanis and getting caught in Kitiara's trap. He acknowledges that it was a step backwards in Laurana's development and made her appear immature and reckless. Margaret Weis disliked the decision at the time and Hickman notes he now agrees with her viewpoint in hindsight.
  • Creator's Favorite: Raistlin for Margaret Weis.
  • Creator's Pest: Margaret Weis did not like the character of Elistan, feeling he was too good with no flaws. At one point she forget to put him in Dragons of Winter Night and wanted to kill him off, but Hickman pointed out that he was the only cleric of Paladine around and intervened. She did get to kill him off in Dragonlance Legends sequel trilogy.
  • Tuckerization: Laurana was named after Laura Hickman.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Flint Fireforge was originally envisioned as a dapper Falstaff-like character with the last name Fieryforge
    • Dragons of Autumn Twilight was originally much longer, going beyond Pax Tharkas to Skullcap and the Dwarf kingdom of Thorbardin, with the companions facing off against Verminaard under the mountains. This story material would later be reused for Dragons of the Dwarven Depths with an Aurak Draconian impersonating Verminaard.
  • Write Who You Know: Acknowledged by Weis and Hickman, who credit their friends for establishing some of the Companions' characterizations during their early game sessions of the AD&D modules (which shared the same characters and plot but were created and play tested before the first novels were written).
    • Terry Philips for Raistlin
    • Janet Pack for Tasslehoff
    • Michael Williams for Caramon
