Trivia / Dragon Calling

Go To

Dragon Calling is an expansive, adventurous fantasy series. This page contains trivia, information and insights confirmed to be canon.

Be aware, all spoilers are unmarked!

  • Giant Flyer: Regarding the sizes of the serpentine drakes (aka the Beacon Throne guardians)—it's confirmed that Eminroth is the largest drake, followed by Selisidus, then Dontriavien, and lastly Raunteshin (who is tiny compared to the others).

  • Immigrant Parents: The reason why Aurnraulath holds the title of the First Prince of Valadae, is that both his parents were born and raised in Ayrelan, the dragons' country of origin, while he was the first royal dragon to be born in Valadae.

  • Magic Is a Monster Magnet: Not “magic” per se, and not outright stated in the books, but Word of God confirms that Laeka’Draeon’s cursed blood/ corrupted manna attracts the attention of other corrupted entities. It is the reason the Don-Chease (although actually aware of him) ignore him until he interferes, why the cacodemon wants to devour him, and why Sotaik breaches the Grey-Path.
  • Mask of Power: Although not mentioned in the books, Word of God confirms that Aena’s Gaalainven mask gives her 360-degree acute sensory awareness.

  • Rock Theme Naming: It is common in hippogriff society to name their offspring after gemstones and minerals. Moldav is named after the amorphous rock, Moldavite, which has an intense green colouring (like Moldav’s eyes).
    • Ametrine is named after the blended quartz (of purple and yellow colouring), ametrine.
    • Zana is named after the phosphate mineral, zanazziite, which comes in colours ranging between pale and dark olive, with a pearly lustre. Zana's colouring is grey with a pale green sheen. Her eyes are also of a lighter olive colour.
    • Rhodon is named after the crystalline mineral rhodonite—which is known for its rose, brown, and red colourings (Rhodon has predominantly red-hued feathering).

  • Younger Than They Look: Laeka’Draeon is obviously a juvenile dragon, although, during his time in Laranen’Unok, he learns from Opal Eyes that he is, in fact, only a few months old (even though physically his body is at the matured rate of several years). Word of God is that, biologically, he is the equivalent of a thirteen-year-old hemlan.
