• Cast the Expert: Ray Jennings is played by real-life NFL running back Arian Foster.
• Dawson Casting: Josh Pence (31) and Chadwick Boseman (37) playing NFL hopefuls in their early 20s. And in a less obvious case, Tom Welling (36) playing an eight-year NFL veteran, who would normally be 30 or 31.
• Executive Meddling: According to Timothy Simons, earlier versions of the script would have confirmed that Bo Callahan was a draft bust. The script was rewritten to leave Callahan's future open-ended, because no NFL team would allow themselves to be depicted losing a trade.
• Irony as She Is Cast: Unlike his character, Arian Foster wasn't selected in the NFL Draft. He actually signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent.
• Missing Trailer Scene: A shot of Rick the intern dropping a tray of coffee in the trailer didn't make it to the final cut of the film, something that his actor Griffin Newman references a lot on his podcast Blank Check with Griffin & David.
