Trivia / Dr. STONE

Go To

  • Blooper: For whatever reason, the Season 2 intro for the Toonami version doesn't have the show's logo where it's supposed to be, either in the full or shortened version. Instead, all that's shown is the sunrise background.
  • Creator's Favorite: Boichi has stated that his favorite character to draw is Kohaku, which isn't that surprising. Quoting an interview:
Boichi: See, actually, when I draw Senku, I keep asking Senku, "Why don't you go back to being petrified?" And when I draw Taiju, "Do you want to be stone again?" And the same with Gen, "I wish you went back to being a stone again!" The only character I truly love is Kohaku. She's my favorite and I wish I could only draw Kohaku. I'm asking you, Dr. Stone fans, please buy only Kohaku figures.
  • Fake Russian: In the English dub, the Russian astronauts are voiced by Americans.
  • Inspiration for the Work: Riichiro Inagaki, in an interview done by Tim Rattray from Anime News Network, states that as a fan of the Dragon Quest series, he got the idea of the petrification from Dragon Quest V.
Riichiro Inagaki: I think in Dragon Quest V there's a story where you can get petrified and I love Dragon Quest so I think that's where the inspiration for specifically the petrification came from.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • As Keiji Fujiwara had passed away after season 1, Byakuya's flashback appearances in season 3 have him voiced by Satoshi Mikami in the Japanese version.
    • Because they were in Australia for a convention during the simuldub, Senku and Suika have their English voices temporarily replaced for episodes 8 and 9 of season 3.
  • Shrug of God: In this interview, Inagaki Sensei's answer to how Ishigami Village was formed from a population of six without dying from inbreeding-related problems is:
Inagaki Sensei: The basic answer to this is, nobody knows whether this is possible or not. The reason is because nobody has ever tried it. But there are situations where islands were populated with small numbers of people. But nobody knows if it started with four people, or ten people. So if nobody really knows for sure, then the god of the world can decide it. And I’m the god of the world in Dr. STONE.
  • Sleeper Hit: Much like The Promised Neverland, which started a few months before, Dr. Stone's popularity quickly skyrocketed (especially after Kohaku's village was introduced) despite being a very unusual series for Jump. Though unlike Neverland, both the author and the artist already had famous series behind them.
  • What Could Have Been: Riichiro's early design for Senku had embraced the mad scientist motif a lot more than the final and was rather named "Gaku Shiraishi".
