• Development Hell: In 2014, a movie adaptation was announced to come out in 2016, produced by Lionsgate Summit and to-be-directed by Mark Waters. However, asides from some small updates on the casting nothing was heard ever since.
  • The Dork Diaries blog tried make the casting easier by allowing the fanbase to vote for which players they wanted. While two had already been cast before the post was made, the final list was never revealed.
  • On February 9, 2021, a video was posted on the Dork Diaries YouTube channel mentioning a film being in development with a Hollywood studio, but that it was put on hold due to COVID-19. It is unknown if this new development suggests that the Lionsgate project has been cancelled or not.
• Follow the Leader: The format of the books in general is glaringly similar to Diary of a Wimpy Kid. However, according to this New York Times article, the idea of the books traced back before Wimpy Kid.
• Market-Based Title: The titles of the books are different in the United Kingdom. For example, Tales from a Not-So-Popular Party Girl is simply titled Party Time.
• Schedule Slip: Tales From A Not-So-Posh Paris Adventure was originally meant to be released in 2020, but missed the intended date with no word on what had happened. Eventually, it got re-scheduled for a September 2023 release.
