Trivia / Doctor Who S6 E4 "The Krotons"

Go To

  • Creator Backlash: Terrance Dicks liked the story, but thought the Krotons were pathetic. Similarly, director David Maloney hated the entire storyline. Hines and Padbury both had their issues during the making of it as well.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The serial was a last-minute replacement for a story called "The Prison in Space", about a planet dominated by misandrist, Straw Feminist women. In fact, said story was scrapped so late in the day that work had already begun on one of the sets and at least one guest part had been cast. Given this and the fact that "Prison" was the only workable script the production team had at the time, it is widely believed that the production team objected to its misogynistic nature, considering that it contained, among other "gems," a subplot in which Zoe is brainwashed by the planet's leaders, only to be broken free after Jamie spanks her. The axing of "The Prison in Space" also contributed to the extreme length of the ten-part serial "The War Games".
    • The rights to the Daleks still remained with Terry Nation, who had left the The BBC for an American TV show. Thus, the Krotons were meant to replace them as the Doctor's main foes. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) the Krotons were nowhere near as effective villains, and faded into obscurity while the Daleks themselves would return during Jon Pertwee’s tenure.
    • Jamie was supposed to leave in this story, but Frazer Hines decided to stay with Patrick Troughton till the end of his run.
  • Working Title: The Trap and The Space Trap.
  • You Look Familiar: James Cairncross (Beta) was seen as James Stirling in "The Reign of Terror".
