• Deleted Scene: In episode 3, it was to be mentioned how the Cybermen had escaped from the doomed Mondas to the planet Telos.
• Fatal Method Acting: Averted. After Patrick Troughton walked past the Gravitron prop, it fell and barely missed where he was standing.
• Missing Episode: Episodes 1 and 3 are missing from The BBC archives. The gaps were filled by animation for the 2014 DVD release.
• What Could Have Been: Like "The Underwater Menace" just before it, this story was written under the assumption that Jamie would be a one-off character in "The Highlanders", which threw Kit Pedler in a bind when the production staff decided to make him a companion at the last minute. The issue was resolved by simply throwing Jamie in the sick bay for the first half of the serial, with the second handing him some of Ben's lines, as they did in "The Underwater Menace".
• Working Title: Cybermen and Return of the Cybermen.
• You Look Familiar: John Rolfe (Sam) had previously appeared in "The War Machines".
