• Actor-Shared Background: Clara mentions that she’s from Blackpool, the same as Jenna Coleman.
• Completely Different Title: The French title is "Robot des Bois" ("Robot Hood"; a play on Robin Hood's name in French-speaking territories, "Robin des Bois" (Robin of the Woods)).
• Content Leak:
  • The script for the episode was one of five scripts leaked online from a BBC Worldwide server in Miami, where they had been sent in preparation for broadcast in Latin America.
  • On 18 August 2014, a rough version of the episode was leaked online. The leaked version is black-and-white, and its visual and audio effects and music are preliminary and incomplete. It contains the Sheriff beheading scene (about one minute of footage) that was cut before the episode was broadcast. This leak followed the leaks of the previous two episodes. The BBC released a statement urging fans not to spread spoilers from the unofficial copy.
• Distanced from Current Events: In the original version of the episode, the Sheriff would have been decapitated in his fight with Robin at the climax, revealing him to be a cyborg. This was removed two days before broadcast due to the media prominence of Western hostages being decapitated by Islamic State forces in the Middle East. However, a rather savage joke about decapitation made by the Doctor was left in, and the scene in question still crept past the censors due to an unfinished work print of the episode being leaked online. The BBC later decided to keep the scene out even in the DVD release. Since both versions are in circulation (one official, one not), fan opinion is divided whether the episode is actually improved with the scene left out.
• Hey, It's That Place!: The outside of the Sheriff's castle is Bodiam Castle.
• What Could Have Been: In the original outline, the Headless Monks from "A Good Man Goes to War" were working with the Sheriff of Nottingham, whom the Sheriff had formed an alliance with and the Doctor and Clara set out to convince Robin Hood to form a band of outlaws to fight back against the Sheriff and the Headless Monks. However, in all likelihood, given the news of real life beheadings mentioned earlier, this idea didn't take.
• You Look Familiar: Trevor Cooper (Friar Tuck) previously played Takis.
