• The Danza: Of a sort: Mark Williams plays Brian Williams.
• Dawson Casting: The part of John Riddell was written for a man in his 30s, but played by then 48-year-old Rupert Graves.
• Prop Recycling:
  • The robot costumes were reused from Mission: 2110.
  • The CGI models of the raptors are the same as those used in Primeval.
• Throw It In!: The Doctor/Rory snog was completely ad-libbed by Matt Smith. So yes, Arthur Darvill was just as surprised as he looked.
• What Could Have Been:
  • Lost during editing was the reveal that Riddell had saved the Doctor beforehand, and was now doing a favour for him, as he knew he would die after leaving Africa.
  • Chibnall thought of using the famous American settler Charles "Buffalo" Jones, who had helped save the American bison from going extinct. Steven Moffat thought his inclusion was too similar to the cowboys in "A Town Called Mercy", so he was dropped.
  • Originally, Nefertiti sacrificed herself to destroy Solomon's ship, but this was shelved for being too much like what Amy and Rory would be going through. Moffat thought about having the two saved by the TARDIS just before Solomon’s ship exploded, but scrapped that too for being anti-climatic.
• You Look Familiar: Or sound familiar — David Bradley (Solomon) had previously voiced the Shansheeth in The Sarah Jane Adventures episode "Death of the Doctor", guest-starring Matt Smith's Doctor.
