- Creator Backlash: Steven Moffat regards this as his least favorite episode he wrote, calling it a bit of a mess. A lot of the fandom agree with him, this episode being widely considered the worst of Series 5. Though in 2019, he has mellowed his opinion down as revealed on an Instagram post, with the encouragement of Russell T Davies.
- Deleted Scene: A cut line would have stated there were other nation-ships and there used to be travel between them, but that Starship UK sealed off its 'borders' several decades ago.
- Enforced Method Acting: Karen Gillan put in some of her own wonder at the set into Amy's actions when she admires the street for the first time.
- Reality Subtext: Liz 10 saying "I was brought up on your stories; my whole family was." Seeing as Queen Elizabeth II seemed to be fond the show, this might have some basis in real life.
- What Could Have Been: In the original script, the Doctor and Liz 10 did not meet properly until she rescued him and Amy in the overspill pipe.
