• Completely Different Title:
  • The French title is "Bibliothèque des ombres, deuxième partie" (The Library of Shadows, Part 2).
  • The Italian title, instead, is "Frammenti di memoria" (Fragments of Memory).
• Prop Recycling: The wedding dress Donna wears in this episode is the same dress she wore in "The Runaway Bride".
• What Could Have Been:
  • Donna's illusory children were initially called Alan and Tracy.
  • A twist revelation in which Donna's artificial-reality husband, Lee, turned out to be an overweight woman in the real world was excised for fear of being too confusing.
• Word of God: According to Steven Moffat, the squareness gun is the same sonic blaster used by Jack Harkness in "The Doctor Dances". After Jack leaves it in the TARDIS, River will take the gun for herself in the Doctor's future.
• Working Title: The Doctor Runs, Forest of the Night, Return of the Dead and River's Run (which was going to be the actual title until very late in the day, as the Radio Times preview still had it as the title). Steven Moffat also proposed, as a joke, A River's Song Ends.
