Trivia / Doctor Who S28 E9 "The Satan Pit"

Go To

  • Completely Different Title: The French title is "La Planète du Diable, deuxième partie" (The Devil's Planet, Part 2).
  • Meaningful Release Date: Coincidentally, this episode was shown in the week of 6/6/06. It followed a wave of Devil-related stories in the media, including the release of The Omen.
  • One-Take Wonder: They only had about 15 minutes left to get the scene where the Doctor gives his big speech to the Devil in the pit done. David Tennant nailed it in one take stopping the nail biting by the crew.
  • Reality Subtext: The reason for Rose's big puppy-dog eyes in the last scene? It's because that's Billie Piper's last scene of the series (the series finale had been filmed earlier, in the same block as "Rise of the Cybermen"/"The Age of Steel", since it featured many of the same characters and props). Both her and David Tennant were having a hard time making it through the scene.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • When thinking of what should be at the bottom of the pit, they considered using Davros or the Master.
    • Russell T Davies also suggested that the money was tight and they might have had to use a Creepy Child rather than a CG giant. The money was found by cutting out the planned Jathaa sunglider sequence from "Doomsday" in favour of taking the lift.
    • Davies thought about re-using the Toclafane for this episode, which had already been invented during the making of "Dalek" the season prior.
