Trivia / Doctor Who 60th AS "Wild Blue Yonder"

Go To

  • Acting for Two: David Tennant and Catherine Tate play the Doctor and Donna and the two aliens mimicking the characters' appearances.
  • In Memoriam: The episode is dedicated to Bernard Cribbins, who passed away in July 2022, shortly after filming his appearance in this episode.
  • Invisible Advertising: The only concrete detail revealed about this episode prior to release was its title and an extremely generic synopsis. The vast majority of promotional material for the anniversary specials concerned the other two, and anything specific to "Wild Blue Yonder" was incredibly vague. In behind the scenes material, Russell T Davies stated that it was because it's unlike the other specials, which have twists and turns that mean a basic summary doesn't give you the whole story, you really can't summarise this episode in any meaningful way without ruining the suspense on first watch.
  • Posthumous Credit: This episode aired a year and a half after Bernard Cribbins' death.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: Wilfred Mott was meant to have a bigger role in the 60th Anniversary, but Bernard Cribbins fell ill after filming his one scene here and passed away shortly after. RTD confirmed this would be Wilf's only appearance, and the episode was dedicated in his honor.
  • Role Reprise: Bernard Cribbins returns as Wilf having last appeared in 2010's "The End of Time".
  • What Could Have Been: While writing for this episode, RTD briefly considered expanding the plot...
Now, I remember sitting, writing and thinking, "Shall we find a cellar full of robot killers? Should we discover a vault on the spaceship's got William Hartnell inside it?" Genuinely, I thought for the 60th, "Should we do this? Should we do that?"
