Trivia / Doctor Who 2012 CS "The Snowmen"

Go To

  • Completely Different Title: The French title is "La Dame de glace" (The Ice Lady).
  • Deleted Scene: Some scenes had to be cut out. This included material with a boy and his mother, played by Max Furst and Devon Black respectively, who lived where Simeon’s labourers worked. The Ice Governess was supposed to have been signified through an image in the Latimers' pond which looked like an upright arm.
  • Development Gag: Clara's headstone in 1892 states that she was born on 23 November 1866 and that she died on 24 December 1892, meaning she not only shares the same birthday (though not the year) as Doctor Who itself, but that she was also 26 years old when she died — the exact same age as Doctor Who was when it was cancelled in 1989.
  • Reality Subtext: At the end, the Doctor clearly struggles to remember the Great Intelligence, finding it familiar but difficult to place. Both "The Abominable Snowmen" and "The Web of Fear", the Second Doctor adventures where the Great Intelligence appears, were Missing Episodes during the time this episode aired, which in a meta-sense might explain why he can't remember them.
  • Real-Life Relative: Joseph and Ellie Darcey-Alden are siblings in real life, just like their characters Digby and Francesca Latimer.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The regular title sequence was supposed to just have merely the title. Some consideration was made of having no on-screen title at all, since it was thought that the title sequence might be held off until the end of the episode, illustrating the Doctor's return to his old self. In pre-production it was decided to have one at its usual beginning slot, and a newly redesigned credit sequence and theme arrangement was devised.
    • Beryl Montague was supposed to be a governess and completely different character from Clara, rather than her alias in the final product. She was even supposed to be a companion before Moffat reworked her character.
    • The Snowmen were supposed to be associated with horse-driven carriages.
  • Working Title: The Snowman.
