Trivia / Der Rosenkavalier

Go To

  • Out-of-Genre Experience: Invoked. After the two very experimental and thematically heavy operas Salome and Elektra, Strauss decided that he was going to write a Mozart-style opera, which was going to be light and fun and which people would want to see. The result was Der Rosenkavalier.
  • Working Title: The working title was Der Ochs auf Lerchenau. Strauss didn't care much for the title Hofmannsthal suggested: the composer wanted to have his favourite character's name in there. However, everyone urged him to change the title to Der Rosenkavalier and Strauss finally gave in, saying, "Also Rosenkavalier, der Teufel hol ihn."note
