- California Doubling: The show is meant to be set in Port Townsend, Washington, but is very obviously filmed in Vancouver, including shots of a very recognizable Horseshoe Bay (but with the BC Ferries logo edited out).
- Development Gag: In 'The Case of the Two Dead Dragons', one of the suspects is wearing a Doom Patrol shirt, not doubt also giving a wink to the fact that the show was originally meant to be a sort of spin-off from that previous show before being re-tooled into being tied up into being connected to the Sandman series.
- Queer Character, Queer Actor: The Cat King is portrayed by Lukas Gage who is part of the LGBTQ+ community.
- What Could Have Been:
- The series was originally meant to be on Max with Doom Patrol and be largely disconnected from the Netflix version of The Sandman, with only broad references to the characters. Once the show switched streamers, the Netflix executives and Sandman showrunner Allan Heinberg requested more overt references.
- During the pilot stage, The Cat King was initially set to be portrayed by Alexander Calvert.
