Trivia / Dawn of a New Age: Oldport Blues

Go To

  • Accidentally-Correct Writing: One of the Flashforwards depicts a future where Dwayne Johnson stars as the lead in a Big Trouble in Little China remake. The GM wrote this while unaware that Johnson was reportedly working on a BTiLC reboot (later clarified to be a sequel), and is currently rumoured to play the lead.
  • Ascended Fanon:
    • Amy calling Katheryn 'Kathy', and Katheryn being annoyed by it, was originally the idea of one of the players.
    • Rose being described in-thread as lacking personality, after she was criticised as such by a player.
    • Some ideas that came from non-canonical material, or started out as jokes, were then properly implemented into the thread or characters. Such as Jenna struggling with having so much mouths to feed, or Ciro having a long-dead Neopet.
  • Bonus Material: Outside of the thread, there's a plethora of extra material- short stories, alternate universe scenarios, an in-character questionnaire and chatroom, etc. These range from strictly non-canon to ambiguously canonical.
  • Flip-Flop of God: Statements about the characters can be subject to change as the players get a handle of their personality. The GM in particular is known to be fluid about facts they provide.
  • Officially Shortened Title: Dawn Of A New Age: Oldport Blues can be shortened to DONA or DOANA for convenience.
  • Throw It In!:
    • Jenna's height in her bug form is taller than in her human form. This was originally because her player gave contradictory info, but is now a feature of her character.
    • Katheryn has seven brothers. This was actually due to a player misreading her original bio, where it stated that her father had seven brothers. The GM decided to roll with it.
    • Benedict referring to people by their surnames was an unintentional Character Tic that the GM fully implemented after it was pointed out to them.
    • Daigo's blood having the ability to transform people into monsters wasn't an ability stated in his sign-up sheet, but when the player had it happen the GM decided to allow it.
    • Zia's mother was originally intended to be an English teacher at Rogers High. The GM assumed that she would be a music teacher, however, and her player went along with it since it offered extra hang-ups for Zia.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Simon's player had originally intended to push Simon towards Zia, since they were both British-born and he felt Zia's telepathy could help deal with Simon's evil alter ego. Then while interacting with Mirielle, the player realised it prompted an interesting dynamic, and later the GM showed a flashforward where Simon had hooked up with Mirielle, so the player decided that the Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl angle worked better.
    • Kev was originally going to be the member of Daigo's gang that helped him fight against Harriet and Hyeon, rather than Devin. It was changed due to it seeming out-of-character for Kev to help Daigo at that moment. It could've considerably changed the scene, considering that Devin's usage of his power leads to him getting gravely injured.
