Trivia / Daffy Duck and Porky Pig Meet the Groovie Goolies

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Mel Blanc voices the male Looney Tunes stars, of course. The same occurs with Frankie, Wolfie and Hauntleroy; voiced like they are in their main show by Howard Morris, along with Drac, Hagatha and Claude Chaney being voiced by Larry Storch.
  • Creator Backlash: Warner Bros. seems to consider the TV movie as this, which is why they never had Filmation work with the Looney Tunes again, only loaned out the characters to another studio once more (to Disney for Who Framed Roger Rabbit, made possible by the intervention of Steven Spielberg) and any time they'd have any animation with the characters outsourced, it would be done by studios that were run by Warner Bros. Animation alumni, until Warner reopened their animation department again in 1980. Warner Bros. parodied this somewhat with the Animaniacs episode "Back in Style," where the Warner siblings are loaned out to various TV animation studios during The '60s and The '70s, including at Phlegmation in Obese Orson.
  • He Also Did:
    • Larry Storch (Drac, Hagatha and Claude Chaney) previously voiced Cool Cat and Merlin the Magic Mouse in the Warner Bros.-Seven Arts era.
    • Warner Bros. Animation veteran Virgil Ross was an animator in this production, though his signature style isn't very evident (though it's likely he handled the scenes where Sylvester and Yosemite Sam were the most on-model, since he generally worked in Friz Freleng's unit.) LaVerne Harding and Ed Solomon, both of whom worked at Warner Bros. Animation in the late 1960s (i.e. the Seven Arts era), were also animators in this.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The TV movie has been released in an edited form a few times on VHS in Europe, but they have since gone out of print, and the conflicting rights between whom owns what (Warner Bros. owning the Looney Tunes and another company (currently Classic Media/NBCUniversal) owning the Groovie Goolies franchise) have prevented this TV movie from getting a legal home video release in North America, not to mention its relative unpopularity.
    • It was once theorized that since Hallmark destroyed most of Filmation's original library when it was remastered, the original masters of the special presumably no longer existed (and was possibly not remastered at all). This was proven untrue with an airing of the special on the German TV channel “Anixe”, as the airing presented the special in HD. This indicates that the master tapes of the special still exist, but have barred from rerelease due to the aforementioned copyright issues.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Petunia Pig is voiced by Jay Scheimer, and sounds quite different from how Petunia usually sounds.
    • Charlie Dog is curiously voiced by Dallas McKennon instead of Mel Blanc, despite Blanc reprising nearly every other character of his in the special.
    • This is also one of the first instances where Blanc takes over as Elmer Fudd following Arthur Q. Bryan's death (previously, Hal Smith had taken over the role).
  • What Could Have Been: In a way, this TV movie served as a test for Filmation to see if they could handle the Looney Tunes characters well enough for a possible new TV series (due to Warner Bros. closing their animation department three years prior), but apparently Warner was not satisfied with the results.
