The cartoon:

  • Adaptation First: An English TV series based on a comic that was never released in English. Interestingly enough, the original comic was released in Canada, but only in French.
  • Children Voicing Children: 10-year-old Alex Doduk as the voice of Jose.
  • Dawson Casting: By contrast, Julian was voiced by the then 14-year-old Andrew Francis.
  • International Coproduction: Between Japan's TMS and Canada's NOA, with Teletoon as the commissioning broadcaster.
  • Life Imitates Art:
    • In the second episode, Von Reichter takes a photo of Cybersix as a child and manipulates it to appear as her current age. Although this was just an idea in 1999, an electronic version was not in common use, and it was nowhere near as sophisticated as it is now (it's often used to locate missing persons these days).
    • In another episode, Jose manipulates footage of a Fixed Idea robbing a bank to make it look like Cybersix is robbing the bank. This would predict deepfakes approximately twenty years later.
  • Rereleased for Free: TMS released the show for free to watch on their YouTube channel.
  • Screwed by the Network: Didn't get more episodes thanks to Teletoon favoring Mega Babies and Fox Kids pre-empting it and other various shows in favor of getting into anime to compete against Pokémon on Kids' WB! with shows like Digimon and Monster Rancher.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The series was planned to be an adult animated show with references to vampirism, drug addiction, and male gender-bending, possibly to make it on par with the source material but it was toned down drastically to appeal more towards a pre-teen demographic, Although some of those elements can be seen in the TMS sample video which has clips from different versions of episodes and a brief scene where José using a gun.
    • Plans for a second season was greenlighted and even approved (characters such as Maura Click, Nacho, and possibly Gengis were planned to appear) but due to conflicts between production studios TMS and NOA, those plans never happened.
  • Written by Cast Member: Von Reichter's voice actor, Terry Klassen, also wrote a few episodes.

The comic:

  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: There's an ongoing fan translation on the Cybersix Reddit.
  • No Export for You: No official English translation of the comic was published, but a fan translation of the French version can be found here.
  • What Could Have Been: The original story idea they had was called Black Baby about a woman dressing up as a male police officer alongside her partner to find the murderer of her father, but once they discovered a 1984 news article about the Rios Embryos Case they built their story from there.
