- Distanced from Current Events: Around the same time as multiple developers were removing Yandere Simulator content in response to the grooming allegations the game's developer YandereDev faced, the character Ayano was replaced by an original character named Ayeka, who has some elements of Monika, beginning with the December 7, 2023 update. She still retains Ayano's voice lines and voice actress though.
- God-Created Canon Foreigner: Nutaku was exclusive to the NSFW version hosted on Nutaku, until version 0.120.
- Reality Subtext: Tessa's fascination with Mio and Quill is based on how Mio, Quill, and Tessa are all names of pets owned by the game's developers.
- Role Reprise: Until version 0.403, Michela Laws reprised her role as Ayano after voice acting was added in the game. Starting with the December 7, 2023 update however, Ayano has been replaced with an original character named Ayeka, and Michaela Laws' voice lines were repurposed for Ayeka.
- Write Who You Know: Morgan Long has confirmed that Mio is a self-insert of herself. She also uses her natural speaking voice to voice Mio.
