  • Development Gag:
    • Career of Evil's title was revealed through an interactive online event (this time via Twitter), similar to how Rowling revealed the titles of the final two Harry Potter books.
    • Lethal White's title was revealed through a game of Hangman on Rowling's Twitter account.
    • Troubled Blood's front cover was revealed in several, partial 'sneak peeks' on Rowling's Twitter account; the clock face revealed the release date (fifteenth day of the ninth month) and when it was identified as the clock tower at Hampton Court, has led to much speculation in the fandom as to whether part of the novel would take place there.
  • Moustache de Plume: Originally adopted because J. K. Rowling didn't want to be treated as a one-trick pony because of the Harry Potter series, especially after the backlash of The Casual Vacancy being read by children whose parents didn't bother to read the blurb or reviews. In fact, there was talk of Rowling suing her own solicitors after it was discovered the wife of a lawyer revealed the ruse on Twitter.
  • Technology Marches On: Certain elements of the Crime Fiction formula are updated to accommodate for things like the existence of the Internet.
