• Creator Breakdown: Given Dan Harmon's struggles with alcohol abuse, it's not hard to see this trope in the fact that characters who drink alcohol in this episode, rather than getting into wacky scrapes or A Very Special Episode, just end up either miserable, humiliated or acting like obnoxious jerks.
• Deleted Scene: One where Chang calls Jeff to ask where the party is upon discovering Troy's cake. Jeff tells him that the group is actually hunkering down to study for finals.
• Development Gag: The Uncle Rusty's T-shirt that appears in The Tag is a reference to a cut plotline from "Conspiracy Theories and Interior Design" where Pierce and Shirley would go on a road trip together to get the "best burger in the Midwest".
• What Could Have Been:
  • In the commentary, Word of God states there was originally going to be a subplot dealing with Chang chasing after the group to hang out with them, only for it to be revealed that he works at the bar they're at when Troy finds him standing in front of the stall collecting tips and silently gives him one. There's even a deleted scene on the DVD where he calls Jeff asking him what he's up to and deduces that he and the group went off to party after finding Troy's "still fresh" cake in the study room.
  • Early drafts of the script had Annie have a heart-to-heart with Abed instead of Troy outside her apartment.
  • Shirley was originally supposed to deliver an angry speech to Jeff, Britta, and Troy, after they'd found and laughed about her drunken pictures, but it was left out of the final cut.
